The media in few hands

TV journalist Huchi Lora expressed his concern that the media in the Dominican Republic is controlled by too few hands. He said this should be regulated as it is in more developed countries, referring to the example of the United States, where no person is allowed to simultaneously own multiple newspapers, TV channels, radio stations or banks. ?When the rules of the game permit that any individual own as many media as he desires, there arises a competition for a few to buy most of the media, which is not health for democracy and should be restricted by law,? said Lora in an interview published in Hoy newspaper. Lora is the producer of the El Dia news program on Telesistema, Channel 11.
In the Dominican Republic, the three larger private banks (Popular, Baninter and Bancredito) control the leading media.
