The National Police announced yesterday that the robbery and murder of Gladys Tavares de Macarrulla has been solved. Four men have been arrested and have confessed to the crimes. The apparent leader of the gang is 24-year-old Frederick Baez Abreu. He carried out the murder of the 70-year-old widow in complicity with 28-year-old David Alexander Lluberes, a former chauffer of the victim. Mrs. Macarrulla, who is the mother of the president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic, lived alone in Los Prados, a middle-class neighborhood. The killers entered by cutting the security bars on the house and bound and gagged the woman. One of the gang is 16 years old. The Police found credit cards, credit card receipts and several other items that belonged to the deceased in the possession of the thieves. Two of the group?s members have prior arrest records, and another is only 16 years old, according to the police.
