Guillermo Garc?a hit a solo home run to open the 7th inning as the Dominican national team won its second game in a row with an 8-4 win over the Mexican entrant (Ca?eros de Los Mochis) at Roberto Clemente stadium in Carolina, Mexico. ?guilas Cibae?as defeated the local (Criollos de Caguas) on Sunday to open the series that runs until Friday.
The Dominican team (the reinforced Aguilas Cibae?as) struck early on a Tony Batista double knocking in Miguel Tejada and Felix Jose who’d doubled. David Ortiz followed with a single to score Batista making it a quick 3-0. Mexico was able to tie the game at 4 with runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th setting up the decisive 3-run rally started by Garcia’s shot.
Odalis Perez (who hasn’t pitched in over two weeks) faces off against the other favorite in the Caribbean World Series, the Los Indios de Mayaguez of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico has two teams in the tourney as Venezuela was unable to send a team.
