Once again the theme of family violence has made headlines in El Caribe. There were 9,637 reported cases of family violence in 2002, approximately 3,315 more than in 2001. Women were the victims in 75 percent of the cases, however in the most recent incident, an eight-year-old girl was the victim of brutal child abuse that resulted in her death.
