Escogido takes 3-0 lead in best of 9

The Leones del Escogido have taken a 3-0 lead over the Aguilas Cibaenas in the final series of the Dominican Winter Baseball Championships. The Aguilas, who had to win six games in a row just to get to the finals, seem to be out of gas as they fell to the Leones 5-2 on Saturday, 4-1 on Sunday and last night, behind great pitching once again from left-handed Cuban pitcher Raul Valdez they were leading 1-0 going into the eighth inning when the Leones came back with three runs to take a 3-1 victory. Tonight the series moves back to Santiago where all it seems that is left for the Aguilas is to save face with at least one victory. The Leones will send Francisco Liriano to the pitching mound and the Aguilas will use their stalwart pitcher L. Barcelo. No matter what the result is, the teams will take a break and on Thursday they will play the fifth game of the series, set at a best-of-nine.

The schedule for the remaining games is:

Thursday, 26 January: Santo Domingo, 7:30pm

Friday, 27 January, Santiago, 7:30pm

Saturday, 28 January, Santo Domingo, 5pm

Sunday, 29 January, Santiago, 7:30pm

Monday, 30 January, Santo Domingo, 7:30pm
