The huge snowstorm that hit the eastern United States stranded thousands of travelers in the Dominican Republic due to interruptions in flight service. All flights to the Northeast were cancelled yesterday, owing to the closure of Newark, La Guardia, Kennedy, Philadelphia, and Boston airports. Among the airlines affected were American Airlines, US Airways, Continental, and Aeromar. The spokesman for the Las Americas and Puerto Plata international airport, Ellis Perez said that most flights were resumed today, with airlines rescheduling passengers as seats become available. Travelers should reconfirm their flight times prior to arriving at the airport.
The 24-hour blizzard that dumped nearly 20 inches of snow on New York City, reminded Dominicans that despite all the problems at home, this is not a bad place to be.
In the Dominican Republic, images of a snow-filled New York, and tales from friends of family on how tough the snow made things for them, brought smiles to many.
