Bauxite exports resumed

Novamaini has plans to export a million tons of bauxite through the Pedernales port, producing around US$40 million this year. The mine operators say there is a potential of exporting US$320 million over 10 years. The mine is located 20 kms from the Cabo Rojo port in the southwestern Pedernales province. Of the US$40 million, the Dominican government will receive around US$4 million, Cementos Andino Dominicanos US$1.5 million for the use of their port installations, as reported in Listin Diario.

As reported, there is the hope that the restart of the mining operations will make a big difference in Pedernales, known for its prosperity 30 years ago when Alcoa Mining exploration operated the bauxite mines.
