The public prosecutor for Santo Domingo has asked for a year of remand in jail for the merengue singer Joan Manuel Novas known as El Sujeto, who is accused of seducing a minor which, according to the magistrate Olga Dina Llaverias, is the same as an act of violence, as reported in El Caribe.
As well as seducing a minor, El Sujeto is accused of physical aggression and threats against a sister of the minor that he allegedly seduced, as well as supposedly hitting a reporter who was covering his arrest.
The judge urged that women come forth to put a stop to violent partners early on, and not wait for the relationship to become another statistic in the more than 100 feminicides so far this year in the Dominican Republic.
