The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Mariano German Mejia said that the hearing of the Felix Bautista case, as with any previous or later case, will never see the court betraying the mandate of the law, of justice and their conscience. In a public statement, he asked Dominican society to maintain the calm that it deserves, “with the conviction that in any of the circumstances the court will impose the solution which is most healthy for its interests.” He made a point of saying that up until now, neither the Chief Justice nor the Plenary of the SCJ have been empowered by the Attorney General’s request. He told Diario Libre that the court has received several objections to the Justice Department’s decision on the filing of the corruption case against senator Felix Bautista from civil society organizations and individuals.
