Medina administration shares new list of exempt items

The Executive Branch has said that 60 food, medication, medical services and farm supply articles as well as school tuition and books that were being considered for taxing as part of the original fiscal reform, which is pending debate in the National Congress, will be removed from the list. The information was released during a press conference given by the Administrative Minister for the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta, Budget Director Luis Reyes, Tax Office director Guarocuya Feliz and the director general of Communications, Roberto Rodriguez Marchena, as reported in Diario Libre.

Peralta said that more than 60 products in the family food basket would be exempt from the Tax on the Transfer of Industrialized Goods and Services (ITBIS). The government took this measure to reassure the public and ensure that the reform does not affect the poorest members of society, he said.
