The weather department (Onamet) forecasts rains and thunderstorms will continue through Wednesday 10 October with the presence of a large area of disturbed weather moving westward. The bad weather is attributed to a trough of low pressure that is extending from the southeastern Bahamas northward over the western Atlantic that continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms over a large area of the tropical Atlantic. Likewise, weather forecasters say that a broad area of low pressure located to the east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles is producing an elongated area of showers and thunderstorms. Neither is expected to escalate more than strong rainstorms and thunderstorms over the next 48 hours. The extra humidity will also bring noontime highs of 30-33C and morning lows of a seasonally chilly 20-21C nationwide. Onamet forecasts temperatures in Santo Domingo of 20/32C, Punta Cana 22/33C, Puerto Plata 20/34C, Samana 22/32C, Santiago 21/33C and La Romana 21/32C.
