Yesterday, Wednesday 10 October, some 79,000 teachers across the country voted for a new president and a new Executive Committee for the Dominican Teachers Association (ADP) for 2012 n 2015.
The candidates for president are Maria Teresa Cabrera, Xiomara Guante, Angel Ramirez, Franco de los Santos and Eduardo Hidalgo and early results show that with more than 13% of the votes counted, Eduardo Hidalgo (PLD) is in the lead with 50.7% of the votes.
According to the Electoral Commission there was a very good turnout, and everything went smoothly.
Candidate Maria Teresa Cabrera complained however that when the electoral commission released the first bulletin, they had already prepared the second. She said she is waiting for the electoral commission to process all the ballots.
Several media outlets also criticized the fact that the election was held on a school day instead of on the weekend. Public school children missed a day of classes as a result.
