Deputy presents bill to limit violence in the media

The Chamber of Deputies has received a legislative proposal from the PRD deputy representing San Jose de Ocoa, Esther Minyetti called “A proposal for a Law on the Media in the Dominican Republic.” The bill seeks to prohibit the media from presenting violence, discriminatory or sexual content. The legislation would prohibit anything that “stimulates vices, reduces human dignity or incites sensuality or morbidity.” Article 12 of the legislation requires anyone working as a professional journalist to belong to the Dominican Journalists Association (CDP) and the Press Workers Union (SNTP).
