Tropical Storm Rafael was moving to the northwest at seven kilometers per hour last night, Sunday 14 October, leaving the Dominican Republic further behind. According to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) the storm is expected to drop some rains, and cause unusual wave action. The Emergency Operations Center (COE), which has had little to do this hurricane season, has issued a green alert from Cabo Engano to Manzanillo due to larger than normal waves and winds along the north, northeast and east coasts of the country. Onamet said that conditions were favorable for thunderstorms and showers over most of the country. They forecast that temperatures would be lower in general especially at night.
Small boats and yachts are recommended to stay in port until sea conditions return to normalcy.
