Toros blast Licey, Estrellas trim Aguilas and rains cancel game in Santiago yesterday.
The Toros del Este defeated the Tigres del Licey 11-3 at the Quisqueya Stadium in Santo Domingo yesterday evening, Tuesday 16 October, spoiling the debut of former Toro manager Dean Treanor as the leader of the Tigres. The Toros dealt Licey pitchers 14 hits including homeruns by Yan Gomez and Eugenio Velez. Starting pitcher Joshua Outman threw four nearly perfect innings.
In San Pedro de Macoris, a ninth inning extrabase hit by Todd Linden brought home Felix Pie with two out in the ninth to break a 1-1 tie and give the Estrellas Orientales their second victory of the young season. The Aguilas Cibaenas are now 1-1.
Rains forced the postponement of the game in San Francisco de Macoris. After discussions between chief umpire Velman Mejia and managers Hector de la Cruz and Ken Oberkfell and the chief groundskeeper Santiago Castillo, the Dominican Professional Baseball League rescheduled the game between the Gigantes del Cibao and the Leones del Escogido .
