The construction of rural roads, highways and bridges, the completion of some 10,000 schools for the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, providing low-cost solutions and finishing the projects left by the previous administration, are the items on the Ministry of Public Works agenda, according to the minister himself, Gonzalo Castillo, who said: “I don’t have any favorite projects, nor do I have my own projects.”
During the Dialogo Libre TV discussion, sponsored by Omnimedia, he pointed out that his ministry has two agendas: that of the President and that of the people. “There is an agenda for the country’s development, that the President has, as he presents tourism as the engine of our development, and the vision of Public Works has to be geared at providing a continuation of this vision. We have to see what we need in terms of roadways in order for tourism to develop,” he said. He then talked about the public’s need for roads and highways that do not damage their vehicles. He said that he would make permanent efforts to pave roads all over the country.
He also promised to have drawings in each province where schools are supposed to be built, so that local engineers can get the contracts. He noted that while Public Works would be monitoring the construction, the budget items came under the Ministry of Education.
