A 4.6 magnitude (on the Richter Scale) earthquake was felt at 11:07am Sunday, 21 October in Nagua and the northeast of the country. It was felt, and reported less than two minutes later from Santiago and the north coast – on DR1 – and the communities of Rio San Juan, Hostos, Castillo, Pimentel and San Francisco. Reports also filtered in from Salcedo, Moca and La Vega. In Nagua, where the quake was strongest, people ran into the streets in panic, since there is a living memory of the 1946 disaster when an 8.0 quake hit the area. This quake was located at 19.5 N and 69.9 W, just off the coast of Nagua. Listin Diario says that reports of the quake came from as far away as Mao, Valverde province. This is the third 4+ earthquake in less than a week, each in different areas.
