Rafael Calderon, speaking on behalf of the PLD senators, says that the government has decided to remove the proposed 16% tax on fuel from the planned fiscal reform.
He said that removing this tax, along with around 60 products would protect poorer families and stated that the reduction in spending proposed by the Economic and Social Council (CES) was not sustainable, as the government needed resources.
In the meantime, President Danilo Medina met with the main passenger transport union leaders, Blas Peralta from Fenatrado, Antonio Marte from Conatra and Juan Hubieres from Fenatrano. The meeting was reportedly harmonious and there were frank discussions on various issues, including the tax reform and transport.
