Assistant Prosecutor General for the Electricity System (PGASE), Moises Ferrer has complained about the flexibility shown by certain judges who allow impunity in cases of electricity system fraud.
He made the comments in response to the release of a metal worker, Maximo Confesor Sanchez Reynoso, arrested in a truck in Haina containing 4,528 pounds of electricity cables that had been stolen from the National Energy System.
Ferrer asked how the court in San Cristobal could release him on bail of RD$75,000 with periodic appearances, even though the prosecutor had asked that he be placed in jail on remand.
He said that cases like this cause considerable damage to society and expense for the state and that the judges should do as requested by the prosecutors, who have spent a lot of time and effort investigating and providing proof, and send a signal that society will not tolerate this type of crime.
