Pipeline to leave barrios without water in Santo Domingo

According to Alejandro Montas, Director of the Santo Domingo Water and Sewage Corporation (CAASD) a major pipeline rupture has caused the breakdown of the Valdesia-Santo Domingo aqueduct, which supplies 60% of Santo Domingo’s water needs. Montas said they would have to close down the system for five days to make repairs as of tomorrow, Wednesday 31 October. More than 40 neighborhoods in the capital will be without water for the duration of the repair.

The rising waters in the Boca de Mana gully due to the heavy rainfall caused by Hurricane Sandy then dragged rocks that damaged the left-hand line of the aqueduct.

He advised National District residents to save water and if possible to store it in tanks, cisterns and other containers to use during the next few days.

The areas affected include Los Prados, San Geronimo, La Castellana, Las Praderas, Evaristo Morales, El Millon, Los Restauradores, Bella Vista, and Mirador Norte and Sur.
