The creation of the national system of farmers’ markets, which was contained in some legislation that President Danilo Medina asked Congress to return so that it could be discussed with the Ministry of Agriculture, seems to have come to a consensus with the municipalities involved. The local government councils, which see the markets as a major source of income, will now manage the farmers’ markets after meetings with Minister of Agriculture Luis Ramon Rodriguez and the municipal advisor to the President, Domingo Contreras. According to Hoy, the Dominican Federation of Municipalities was represented by Victor de Aza.
