The Police have announced that three men are in jail for the murder of former Major League pitcher Pascual Perez. The retired ball player, who was 55, was murdered in his home during a suspected attempted robbery. Perez, who during his career played with the Atlanta Braves, Montreal Expos and New York Yankees, suffered a fractured skull. A judge in San Cristobal ordered Guillermo Gomez, Ariel Santos and Julio Ramirez to preventive custody at Najayo. Joel Alexander Nunez was released on bail. Brothers Fabio Manuel and Alberto Velazquez Paredes were also arrested in connection with the case.
Diario Libre reports that the Police suspects that the killing was carried out to steal the US$2,400 pension the ball player had just cashed. Reportedly, Perez lived alone in San Gregorio de Nigua, in the southwestern province of San Cristobal.
