The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development Temistocles Montas says that the decision on just what kind of an agreement will be worked out with the International Monetary Fund will be made in January, but that it was “obvious” that a new Stand-by Arrangement would imply new taxes. Apparently the target of any new changes would be the electricity sector. El Caribe reports Montas as saying during a television interview that in the meantime President Medina believes that whatever the electricity sector needs has to be transferred to it. This could very well mean that next year those who pay for the service can expect to have to pay higher electricity tariffs.
