Despite the losses caused by Hurricane Sandy, the government has announced that there will not be a lack of food at Christmas.
There will be 16 million fresh and two million frozen chickens; 900 pigs ready for eating as there are 75,000 sows, each producing around 12 piglets a year, although the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Ramon Rodriguez, said that in December each pig will only weigh about 40 pounds, but the price should decrease due to the high levels of consumption.
Speaking to journalists, he assured that there would be no problems with food shortages, and that prices would decrease again, even in the case of products like tomatoes and plantains that were affected by the storm.
