Judges protest against dismissals

Judges in their official garb marched from the Church of Our Lady of Peace to the new building of the Supreme Court of Justice on Enrique Jimenez Moya Avenue in Santo Doming yesterday, Wednesday 7 November, with placards saying “Judicial Independence” demanding that the two judges who were recently dismissed in Santiago be reinstated.

The judges said that they had a document criticizing the dismissal of Luisa Garcia Polanco and Gabriel Marchena, by the Judicial Committee, saying that they rejected all of the disciplinary decisions as they were unjust, disproportionate, arbitrary and above all that they established a harmful precedent that could undermine the years of progress which the Dominican justice system had made towards judicial independence.
