El Dia reports today, Monday 12 November that the US authorities have opened an investigation into the infiltration of Dominican security organizations by drug trafficking groups. The groups seek to obtain intelligence services, including hi-tech equipment, for successful drug trafficking operations. As reported, the US authorities opened the investigation after determining a similar modus operandi in several judicial cases, including those involving Antonio del Rosario Puente, Ernesto Quirino Paulino Castillo and former Navy officers Miguel Antonio Suarez Silfa and Carlos Rosso Pena.
El Dia also reports that retired general Francisco Antonio Hiraldo Guerrero has decided against voluntary travel to the United States, choosing instead to sit for hearings in the Penal Hall of the Supreme Court of Justice that will rule on his extradition. He said he has hired lawyer Ramon Pina Acevedo who will defend him on 16 November in a court hearing to be headed by judge Miriam German Brito.
