President Danilo Medina met with chief executives of Spanish tourism companies in Madrid yesterday, Thursday 15 November before traveling on to Cadiz for the 22nd Meeting of Ibero-American Heads of State and Government. The Presidency said that the meeting, which focused on possible future investments, had been motivated by the Medina government’s expressed interest in tourism as the engine of growth. Dominican ambassador in Spain Cesar Medina, President Medina’s advisor Carlos Malo and Spanish businessmen Pepe Hidalgo of Globalia and Gabriel Escarrer Julia of Melia, both long-time investors in the Dominican Republic, spoke during the meeting, which was held at the Miguel Angel Occidental hotel.
President Medina was accompanied by Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo, Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta, and Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso. Santo Domingo East mayor Juan de los Santos, Hermanas Mirabal senator Luis Rene Canaan Rojas and businessman Jose Miguel Gonzalez were also present.
Other Spanish businessmen at the meeting included Abel Matutes Juan from Grupo Fiesta, Miguel Fluxa Rosello from Iberostar, Javier Blanco from BeLive, Gonzalo Chico Barbier from Pullmantur, Pablo Pinero Invernon from Bahia Principe, Jose Brichs from Barcelo, Manuel Jove from Inveravante, Angel Rivera Congosto from Banco Popular, Ignacio Aranguren from NH, Jesus Nuno de la Rosa and Emilio Gil Dominguez from Viajes El Corte Ingles, Cristina Villalba from Fundacion Finovareggio and Juan Manuel from Segitur.
The Presidency reported that on Thursday morning, 15 November, President Medina met with representatives of 20 Information Technology and Communications companies interested in investing in the DR. Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta made the welcoming address at the meeting, while Jose Luis del Rio and Carlos Manuel Alvarez of the Software Cluster of the Dominican Republic introduced the participants. They included: Carlos Cabezon of Digitex, Luis Miguel Ingles Vallejo of the PFS Group, Antonio Cabrera of Viavansi, S21 CEO Xavier Mixelena and Juan Antonio Gomez Bule of S21, Javier de la Cuerda of Global Services Telvent, Enrique Munoz and Emilio Gil of El Corte Ingles, Jose Garcia Morales of CEOE, Luis Perez Bermejo of Radiotrans, Jose Maria Pacheco Guardiola of Konecta, Juan Maria Aguirre of GSS and Santiago Urio of BPE.
President Danilo Medina was also received by King Juan Carlos, host of the Ibero-American Summit, at his office yesterday, Thursday 15 November.
