Dominican singing stars Juan Luis Guerra and Milly Quezada were the winners for the Dominican Republic last night, Thursday 15 November, during the XIII Annual Latin Grammy Awards. The event, billed as “The Biggest Night in Latin Music” took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
During the evening show, as reported, everyone was able to experience the massive power of an authentic Afro-Caribbean orchestra Dominican singer/songwriter Juan Luis Guerra who reportedly made the audience shake their hips with ‘En el cielo no hay hospital,’ a rollicking merengue anchored on sticky sax riffs and syncopated tambora beats. The LA Times reported that Guerra “brought the hall to its feet with his kinetic rendition of ‘En el cielo no hay hospital’ (In Heaven There Is No Hospital)”. Another Dominican, bachata hitmaster Prince Royce also performed that evening joined by Sebastian to perform “Incondicional,” a hit tailor-made for the tropical dancefloor.
That evening, Milly Quezada, known as the Dominican Queen of Merengue, also received the Grammy for the Best Contemporary Tropical Album.
Juan Luis Guerra was also honored for his production of MTV Unplugged for Colombian singer Juanes, who was one of the night’s performers. The Colombian singer and songwriter won Album of the Year and Best Long Form Music.
