The Metropolitan Archbishop, Nicolas de Jesus Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez, has called on the authorities and the general population to celebrate this Christmas with calm and austerity because he believes that the country is not in a situation that will allow it to waste money.
Diario Libre quotes him as saying: “At Christmastime there is always the idea of doing something special, and for me the most special thing is that we remember the birth of Jesus Christ, which is the meaning of Christmas. Therefore, people should celebrate this in an austere manner, since we are not here to waste or squander money,” he said, during an interview at the Presidential Palace.
Lopez Rodriguez thinks that people will accept that they can celebrate Christmas in a plain and austere manner, avoiding excess and violence.
Commenting on the violence experienced over the past few months, the prelate says that there is no question that we are in a violent society, and he suggested analyzing the problem firmly and with objectivity and at the same time, finding a solution to this national problem.
“I keep believing that there is a lack of family, education. Jobs are lacking, accompanied by the fact that many couples are together circumstantially; this is all part of the problem,” said the Cardinal.
