Increased subsidized food program in the north

The subsidized state cafeterias (Comedores Economicos) are going to expand their programs in the provinces of Dajabon and Puerto Plata, as announced by the General Administrator of the program, Ramon Maria (Monchy) Rodriguez.

He went on to say that the Puerto Plata canteen with modern installations would be ready next year, and would serve thousands of people.

Rodriguez also announced that they would be extending the ‘University Lunch’ program through which thousands of students will have food at the weekends.

He said that on President Danilo Medina’s instructions, they were committed to helping those poor communities.

In Dajabon 7,000 basic food packages were handed out, which when cooked will each feed 20 people and 4,000 cooked meals via mobile canteens. The beneficiaries were residents of Restauracion, Loma de Cabrera, Partido, El Pino, Los Miches, La Mina de la Fe, La Aviacion, Patilla, Benito Moncion, Los Girasoles, Escuela San Martin de Porres, Barrio Norte, La Vigia and Canongo.

A total of 6,000 food parcels were distributed in Puerto Plata, which will provide 120,000 meals and 4,000 cooked meals in the communities of Sosua, Altamira, Javillar, Aguas Negras, Playa Oeste, Cristo Rey, La Isabela, Proyecto Monte Bar, Luperon, San Marcos and Padre Granero.
