The president of the National Foundation for Cardiology and Medical Assistance (FUNDACAM), Doctor Tirso Rosa Castillo, after holding a three-day health program in Las Matas de Farfan in the southwest of the country, discovered that of the 6,978 patients who attended, almost 50% had high blood pressure, and most were unaware of it.
Rosa Castillo attributed the situation to the high consumption of natural salt, a sedentary lifestyle and low consumption of fruit, vegetables and foods high in Omega 3. This was exacerbated by the fact that this part of the country is so dry that it has no fish or seafood, which are an important part of a healthy diet.
