Supreme Court president Dr. Mariano German Mejia says that he does not know if the United States consulate has cancelled the visas of several judges who have been criticized for allegedly handing out light sentences to drug traffickers. There has been much speculation after reports circulated that a number of judges from the National District, Santo Domingo province and other areas have had their visas revoked.
Speaking following a workshop on “Harmonization of Penal Legislation and the Fight against Organized Crime,” attended by Dominican legislators and the Ministers of Justice from Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, German said that he knew nothing about the case and that he had not received any notification from the US Embassy.
