Ex-president Fernandez in Jordan

His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan welcomed former Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez to Amman yesterday, Monday 10 December.

The King thanked Fernandez for choosing the University of Jordan as the site for a Latin American Studies Center, to be named after the former President and which is being inaugurated today, Tuesday 11 December.

The center, which seeks to promote scientific and cultural ties between Arab and Latin American nations, is described as the first of its kind in the Arab world.

The Jordanian monarch and Fernandez also discussed the situation in Syria and initiatives for achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.

Fernandez thanked the King for his commitment to strengthening the friendship between Jordan and Latin America and also commended Jordan’s endeavors to promote peace and security in the region.

He referred to King Abdullah’s call for cementing ties with Latin American nations during the third summit of South American-Arab Countries (ASPA) held in October in Peru.
