The Shakira concert debacle

After the last-minute cancellation of Shakira?s concert on 19 March, Bancredito published an advertisement assuring its customers that those who had purchased discounted tickets through them would get their money back if they chose not to hold on to the tickets and wait for Shakira?s next performance on 22 May. List?n Diario reports, however, that promoter George Nader will honor the tickets for admission on 22 May, but does not plan to issue any refunds. Nader argues that he gave away many ?courtesy? tickets that are undistinguishable from those that were bought, and for which no refund would be valid.
According to Carlos Cepeda Suriel, a member of the Comisi?n de Espectaculos P?blicos y Radiofon?a (CNEPR), the reason stated for the postponement of the show is valid ? the entertainer has a cold ? and the entrepreneur does not have to reimburse money paid for tickets.
Shakira excused herself, saying that ?artists are also human and get sick?, after reportedly coming down with the flu and deciding to rest on doctors? orders. Shakira made the trip to the country and spent a short vacation in Casa de Campo in La Romana, where William Jana certified her illness and said that she was in bed.
But Diario Libre claims that Shakira performed in San Juan, Puerto Rico without any trace of illness, leading to speculation that the real reason for the postponement could have been that local promoters did not meet her requirements ? namely the positioning of four giant screens and a special stage.
Witnesses who were at the Quisqueya Ball Park for Shakira?s Wednesday afternoon rehearsal say she was visibly bothered, throwing her guitar and leaving the stage in a fury.
