Christmas is coming; hospitals filling up

Listin Diario provides a glimpse of a night in the emergency room at the Luis Eduardo Aybar hospital in the lead-up to the festive season. Saturday, 15 December was not a typical night, with at least nine cases of stab wounds inflicted by partners and all of the patients were drunk.

Some of the stab victims went for surgery, others were admitted and the rest sent home. In addition, there were six cases of men injured by machetes during fights.

There were also increases in the number of cases of injuries due to gunshot wounds and knife wounds at the other hospitals in the area, including Francisco Moscoso Puello hospital and Dario Contreras Trauma Center. The latter also dealt with several traffic accident cases.

At the Dario Contreras hospital, early on Sunday morning 69 patients arrived at the emergency room, of whom 26 were victims of traffic accidents, 24 of them were motorcyclists, nine stab wounds, six gunshot wounds, one beaten in a flight and eleven due to falls.

The previous day they treated 134 patients, 53 due to traffic accidents, 57 falls, 8 from aggression, 10 gunshot and stab wounds and one due to a fight. 90% of the patients were between the ages of 15 and 69.
