A movement known as La Multitud (The Masses) congratulated the Dominican people on the arrival of 2013 and called on them to gather their strength for the struggle that would take place during the year to overcome the problems affecting the country.
They reminded the public that 2013 was the Bicentennial of Juan Pablo Duarte’s birth and should be used as a time for Dominicans to start re-founding the Republic based on his ideals of social justice and freedom.
Spokesman Tony Then said that the country had made great strides against corruption and impunity towards the end of 2012 and that in 2013 they should work towards achieving justice as required by the people.
La Multitud announced that during January and the rest of the year there would be several events paying homage to Juan Pablo Duarte and highlighted the need to fulfill his desire for a “Free and Sovereign Nation”.
