JCE close to certifying protestant marriages

Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario announced yesterday, Monday 14 January that the board is making good progress towards the implementation of the provisos in Law 198-11, which allows evangelical pastors to officiate marriages in their churches in coordination with the Civil Registry in the Dominican Republic. El Nuevo Diario quotes Rosario as saying that his inspection teams have been hard at work with all the churches, holding workshops with 436 pastors and inspecting dozens of their churches. Rosario said that an announcement would be made shortly about the opening of marriage ceremonies to the non-Catholic Christian denominations.
