The Vice President’s office that manages the Social Policies Cabinet and the Ministry of Public Health has announced an agreement to work together to strengthen public health initiatives in the framework of the Progressing with Solidarity Program.
The agreement involves the investment of US$61 million over three years in the public health system using funds provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Also, the Spanish Andalusian International Development Cooperation Agency is lending EUR2.9 million to be used for the construction of a hospital in Pedernales and to improve services at hospitals in the border towns of Elias Pina, Independencia, Montecristi and Dajabon, which serve large numbers of immigrants in addition to Dominicans.
Vice President Margarita Cedeno and Minister of Public Health Freddy Hidalgo signed the agreement at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Thursday 17 January.
The agreement also includes coordinated preventive health actions with the beneficiary families.
