The earnings of the financial system, before tax, increased by RD$1.3 billion in 2012, over the same period the year before. This represents a 6.7% increase. The earnings of the financial system before tax totalled RD$20.31 billion while during the same period the year before they came to RD$19.03 billion, according to the Superintendent of Banks. In 2012 the financial system paid RD$4.12 billion in Income Tax, RD$304 million more than the year before, 2011, when they paid RD$3.82 billion. The results for the financial year show that the system earned RD$16.2 billion, while in 2011 it earned RD$15.21 billion, some RD$981 million less.
The commercial banks earned RD$13.7 billion, some RD$952.4 million more than the year before when the amount was RD$12.73 billion. Last year the savings banks obtained earnings of RD$775.7 million and in 2011 they closed with RD$701.9 million; the savings and loan associations obtained some RD$1.7 billion last year and in 2011 they made RD$1.55 billion. At the same time, the credit corporations earned RD$8.5 million last year and in 2011 some RD$2.7 million. And the National Housing Bank (BNV) earned RD$23.4 million compared to RD$23.3 million in 2011.
