The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reports that there were 28 traffic accidents during the Altagracia Day long weekend, resulting in 20 injuries, as reported in Listin Diario. The long religious holiday was from Friday, 18 January through Monday, 21 January.
COE director General Juan Manuel Mendez said that it was the same number as last year, and that no one was killed in the accidents.
Overall this year there was a reduction of 111 in the number of people needing medical assistance over last year, with a total of 207.
Mendez went on to say that 16 lost children were helped at the emergency center at the Basilica in Higuey; all were reunited with their parents.
