Medina meets counterparts in Chile

President Danilo Medina attended the First Summit Conference of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the European Union (CELAC-UE) in Santiago de Chile over the weekend of 26 and 27 January. He held informal conversations with several of his regional counterparts including Panama’s Ricardo Martinelli, Peru’s Ollanta Humala, Costa Rica’s Laura Chinchilla, Haiti’s Michel Martelly, Uruguay’s Jose Mujica and the recently sworn-in President of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto. The Presidency reports that he spoke to Cuba’s Raul Castro and discussed the possibility of starting talks for a free trade agreement and support for education with Cuba sending teachers for the public education system.

Medina is scheduled to return this evening, Monday 28 January.
