In today’s Diario Libre, Wednesday 30 January, advertising guru Sergio Forcadell writes up an imaginary conversation with the late Harold Priego, the creator of memorable local caricature characters n Boquechivo, Diogenes, Dona Marmara, Don Bartolo, Yuleidis, Turpen, Gato Publico, etc.
Priego died of a heart attack on Duarte Day. In his last work, he had dedicated his characters to raise awareness of Duarte’s role in creating the Dominican national identity. Forcadell says that Priego says that God sent for him, but appreciates the fact that it happened on Duarte Day. He also tells Forcadell that in heaven he will create the characters of Angelchivo, Sampedrito, among others.
