The UK fresh produce industry celebrated its strong trading relationships with the Dominican Republic at the 67th Fresh Produce Consortium Annual Dinner on Saturday 2 February 2013 at the Savoy hotel in London, sponsored by the British Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Association of Exporters and UK sponsor Anglia Business Solutions.
The guest of honor was Dominican Ambassador Federico Cuello Camilo.
The UK is a significant importer of Dominican fresh produce, predominantly bananas, avocados, mangoes and pineapples, with fresh produce imports currently at around 210,957 tons.
Nigel Jenney, chief executive of the FPC said: “The UK market could benefit further from the development of other products which can be grown easily in the tropical climate of the Dominican Republic. We look forward to taking a delegation of FPC members to explore further the potential of this fertile island.”
