Travel abroad charged to taxpayers is down by 90%, reports Listin Diario today, Friday 8 February. Reportedly, ministers, deputy ministers and high-ranking military officers are traveling less. The newspaper reports that during the Fernandez government, the Ambassadors and Government VIP room at Las Americas International Airport would provide daily services to around 40-50 government officials who were traveling.
According to the report, austerity measures have reduced ministerial travel to strictly official business and the number of people accompanying government officials has also been reduced. This has been the case in all of President Danilo Medina’s overseas trips.
An unidentified employee of the VIP hall said that in the past they had to wait until after midnight to serve government officials using the facility, but now they regularly leave at 6pm.
