Playwright Franklin Dominguez is presenting “Duarte, Founder of a Republic” at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo. This year the country celebrates the bicentennial of the birth of the founder of the Dominican national identity. The play recounts how La Trinitaria group, the social network that led to Dominican independence from Haiti was put together, the struggles against Haitian domination, the proclamation of the Dominican Republic, confrontations between Duarte and Ramon Santana as well as providing an insight into his inspirational thinking. Duarte will be played by Harold Gil.
The play will be staged from Tuesday, 26 February through Sunday, 3 March at Bellas Artes on Maximo Gomez Avenue. Tickets are: RD$300 and the show is at 8:30pm.
