Pediatrician Armando Armenteros says that 70% of the government?s budget for health services in the border provinces is used to assist illegal Haitian aliens, as reported in Hoy newspaper. Armenteros spoke during a seminar sponsored by the Association of Journalists and Writers (ADPE), where he said that the situation is worsening because of the lack of health services in Haiti itself. Armenteros presides over the Dominican Committee for International Solidarity for Haiti, an organization that supports education and health programs for Haitians in the border areas. He criticized that the Haitians are taught in Creole and not in Spanish because he said it only increases the spread of the little-known dialect, which in turn increases the poverty and isolation of the children. Deputy Pelegrin Castillo feels the international community has left the problems of Haiti up to the Dominican Republic. ?If we are providing work, health, education and even another nationality, then there is no way that they will think of another solution for our people,? he said.
