The Dominican Republic is one of the world leaders in organic farming. A total of 24,161 certified producers cultivate 2.5 million tareas of organic produce in the country, as reported in Diario Libre. Exports of organic produce are worth US$200 million. The main organic products are cacao, bananas, coffee, coconuts, mango, limes, avocados, melon, ginger, macadamia, cassava and vegetables.
