The 158 hospitals run by the Public Health Ministry have now spent three months without receiving their state subsidies, which is affecting their ability to operate at all. According to Hoy newspaper, the Executive Branch has only delivered funds to the self-managed centers. Commenting on this case, the president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), Amarilis Herrera, said that the performance of these health centers has been completely upset by the lack of resources, even though, in her opinion, the money that is assigned is totally insufficient. Nonetheless the Minister of Public Health, Freddy Hidalgo, said that not all of the hospitals are in arrears and that they would be brought up to date this week.
