The traditional Independence Cycling Tour is taking place in its 34th year. The Vuelta Ciclista Independencia takes leading cyclists all around the country. Yesterday, Thursday 21 February, the cyclists were in Las Terrenas, Samana an area known for its hills, lovely landscape and beaches. News reports say that the final leg of the 154-km second race of the tour had Augusto Sanchez leading with 3:37.44. Second place went to Bruno Langlois of Garneau Quebecor, who now leads the overall race with an accumulated time of 6:43:51. Second place in the competition is Pablo Mudarra of Costa Rica. The Canadian team is the leader with its Garneau Quebecor troop.
The tour is in its third phase, with the cyclists heading today to the north-central area from the Samana seafront boulevard to Villa Rivas, Castillo, San Francisco de Macoris, Tenares to end at the central park of Salcedo, for 146km.
