A Bolivian national who was accused of murdering the representative of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on 28 March 2010 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Fourth Court of the Penal Chamber of Santo Domingo. Luis Antonio Baldelomar Tirina (Tony) was found guilty of the murder of Japanese Tadaomi Nakai who had been based in the Dominican Republic since January 2010, as reported in Diario Libre.
The prosecution said that Baldelomar and Glennys Soraya Watanabe had been married for 12 years and had five children. They lived in Japan and had moved to live permanently in the DR. Reportedly, Watanabe began a relationship with Nakai with her husband’s approval in return for the benefits the family would receive. But when Baldelomar felt that his wife had fallen in love with Nakai, he was jealous and murdered the Japanese diplomat. He copied the keys to Nakai’s apartment. According to reports, Watanabe, who had five children with Baldelomar, was present when the murder occurred, at the Biltmore XI building in Federico Geraldino, Piantini neighborhood in Santo Domingo
